Yesterday Out Against Abuse attended the 25th Annual Crime Victims’ Candlelight Vigil. The event was sponsored by the Office of the New York State Attorney General and the Downstate Coalition for Crime Victims. One of our Board members, Anindita Chaterjee Bhaumik, led the East Village Hindu Temple Choir in the Candle Lighting Ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony, audience members rose and shared their grief, stories of murdered loved ones and survival from domestic violence and sexual assault. I was moved by the courage and strength of the survivors and friends and family who had overcome such tragedies. It also made me realize how much more we must fight for the rights of victims and survivors. Out Against Abuse lends its thoughts and prayers to victims and their friends and families everywhere. We hope to continue growing our organization to help those in need.
